Once upon a time there was a single girl who lived in a little white house. She lived alone and was searching for just the right person to settle down with and start a family. The house was so small that she barely had room for even a tiny Christmas tree.
Life was quiet, but also very lonely at times, especially around the holidays. She could feel the biological clock ticking and had come to terms with the fact that when she became a Mom, she would be a midlife Mom.
Fast forward to the 2011 holiday season, and my life has a new meaning. The girl in the little white house finally became a Mom, a midlife Mom to Jennifer and Benjamin, twins, eleven years old. Things are no longer quiet, in fact it’s downright noisy and chaotic. We are currently orbiting in the “holiday orbit,” where kids are expected to move at the speed of light! And the speed of light is…… 186,000 mi/sec. Yes, it’s mind-boggling!
All activities will continue at this speed, throughout the holidays. I’m bracing myself for the flurry of gift wrapping, cookie baking and waiting for jolly Santa to appear on Christmas Eve. Meanwhile Elf On The Shelf continues to appear in the oddest of places.
It’s been a long time since I lived in that little white house. It served its purpose for many years, and now I move forward into the amazing journey of being a midlife Mom, along with all the many joys and frustrations it brings. Happy Holidays!
